The Rail District, in partnership with the City of Austin and Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, completed a station location study in the vicinity of the Seaholm District in downtown Austin.
The purpose of the Seaholm Study was to identify a rail station location that would provide multimodal—rail, bus, streetcar circulator, pedestrian, bicycle—connections and access to nearby residential developments, employment, and downtown destinations.
San Antonio's VIA Metropolitan Transit is conducting a site feasibility study for a multimodal station in downtown San Antonio.
In addition to VIA, study partners include the Rail District, the City of San Antonio, the San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization, TxDOT, the Downtown Alliance, and the San Antonio Mobility Coalition.
The Study began in February 2007 and expected to be complete in summer 2007.
The Rail District conducted economic impact analyses on the 15 preliminary station locations. The analyses focused on the economic development potential for each potential station area. The following Executive Summary provides an overview of the 15 analyses.
